The first step was to remove the vinyl woodgrain. I used a hair
dryer to heat up the vinyl and that made it easier to remove. I got most of it off that way. I then used
solvent to get the rest off.

Take your time and don't use anything that could
scratch the metal surface underneath the vinyl.

The glue holding the carpet on was a bit of a chore
to get off. As I remember, I used Liquid Nails on it a bunch of years ago!
|

After removing the carpet, I sanded the
areas where the carpet was to get off the old adhesive.

The area on the top plate where the woodgrain meets
the sidewall is in rough shape. I think I might use some textured dark argent paint to hide the pits and corrosion.
|

The actual sidewall looks pretty good so the
painted area shouldn't be too wide.

It took a little work, but I managed to tape off around the pitted sidewall
area in preparation for paint.

I painted the console with "Satin Black" from Totally Auto. This is the same spray paint I used on the dash frame.

The console door works well, so nothing really to do to it. I picked
up the parts above for the shifter handle from YearOne and a new vinyl woodgrain kit from the now closed Paddock.
